1973 Vintage Audemars Piguet 5279 Cobra 32mm 18k White Gold Automatic Watch

Backed by a 2-year warranty and a 30-day return window. In the early 1970s, Audemars Piguet enlisted the legendary Gérald Genta to design a new generation of integrated-bracelet luxury watches. While his 1972 Royal Oak Ref. 5402 in stainless steel became an icon of sports luxury, Genta also designed a parallel line of opulent, all-gold integrated pieces known informally to collectors as the "Cobra" family (introduced around 1971–1972, beginning with Ref. 5403). Reference 5279 was released alongside this design movement, adapting the seamless case-to-bracelet flow and Calibre 2120 into a sophisticated tonneau/cushion dress silhouette. At the time of its release in the 1970s, an all-gold AP Cobra was significantly more expensive at retail than the steel Royal Oak. Coined by collectors for the way the heavy, supple Polonaise woven gold bracelet coils smoothly around the wrist like the body and scales of a snake.The woven pattern on the dial and bezel were hand-machined using specialized guilloché pantograph tooling so that light reflects off the case and dial at identical angles. Because this watch predates Audemars Piguet's implementation of the letter-prefix system in 1975 (A-Series, B-Series, etc.), both its case number (32) and movement number (149276) follow AP's historic sequential numeric registry.
